Day 6: AWS | Route 53

Day 6: AWS | Route 53

Route 53 provides in AWS DNS as a service.

DNS stands for Domain Name System.

On daily basis everyone uses this DNS but someone is aware and someone is not aware about this.

For example you are using amazon.com or youtube.com, when you type this is your browser you are using DNS directly or indirectly.

DNS - Domain Name System.

  • A DNS server is a computer with a database containing the public IP addresses associated with the names of the websites an IP address brings a user to. DNS acts like a phonebook for the internet. Whenever people type domain names like google.com or youtube.com into the address bar of web browsers, the DNS finds the right IP address. The site’s IP address is what directs the device to go to the correct place to access the site’s data.

For doing all above things. First you buy the domain then you will look for hosting solutions then there has to be some DNS record that has to be maintain everytime.

AWS says don't bother for all above things, if you are hosting your application on the AWS platform within the VPC or somewhere, AWS will provide you something called as Route53.

Route53 also performed health checks for the webserver/application.
